Sarasakana: The Mayurbhanj Sahitya Akademi, Baripada, in collaboration with the Seemanta Youth Festival Committee, Jharpokharia, organized a national seminar on Folk Literature: The Pinnacle of Folk Consciousness and Liberation.

The three-day event culminated on the third day of the Seemanta Youth Festival with a grand session presided over by Dr. Sagol Nayak, President of Mayurbhanj Sahitya Akademi. The keynote address was delivered by Padma Shri awardee Damayanti Beshra, who also presented her research paper.

Professor Chandra Bahan Mohapatra, Head of the Odia Department at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, provided insightful guidance on the essential elements of folk literature research and presented his paper.

Distinguished guests included former Jharkhand minister Dr. Dinesh Sarangi, poet Atanu Kabir, litterateur Nundavan Dash, Professor Jagatbandhu Acharya, and Kunjabihari Padhy.

The seminar was inaugurated by Akshapak Shishir Kumar Pattnaik, who introduced the guests, while Professor Thomas Marandi delivered the vote of thanks. Professor Dr. Kunjaban Prusti conducted a special discussion on the seminar’s theme and presented his research paper.

Various thematic sessions were chaired by renowned scholars such as Professor Dr. Krinath Mallik, Dr. Digambar Giri, and Dr. Jagatbandhu Acharya, who reviewed the presented papers. Another discussion session, presided over by Professor Dr. Nirmal Chandra Sahu, included participation from Ajit Padmanai Sahu, Sanjay Choudhury, Dr. Kumar Pattnaik, and Gupteswar Mumu.

During the concluding ceremony, former MLA Dr. Budhan Mumu extended his support to the organizers. A total of 32 research papers were presented at the event.

More than a hundred students from Seemanta College and Lakshmikant College’s Odia Department actively participated in the national seminar. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Malay Kumar Nayak.
