Tentulikunti: Residents of Mausi Ma Temple village under Parja Barangpad Panchayat in Tentulikunti block of Nabarangpur district — including Patnayak, Damayanti Samantara, Halam Begum, Manjit Kaur Singh, and many other women — staged a sit-in protest blocking the gate of the Mega Water Project.
Manoj Kumar Panigrahi, Development Officer, sent the complaint of the village water supply and sanitation department to the concerned officials after receiving news of the protest. According to the complaint lodged by the women of Mausi Ma Temple village, potable water is being supplied to other villages, but their village is left without water, which prompted the protest.
The women said they have been repeatedly requesting for years for the mega water supply, but no one has addressed their concerns. They have highlighted defects in the mega water supply through media, but nothing changed. Due to lack of water, the villagers became frustrated and finally decided to protest.
The women forcibly sat blocking the gate of the Mega Water Project at Limita Guda for about 4 hours. The Tentulikunti block is being deprived of water supply despite repeated promises.
When Aadhaar cards were issued, assurances were given that water supply would be provided within a year. The village water supply department officers promised the women of Mausi Ma Temple that water would be supplied by the end of June, but until now no drinking water has been provided.
Mausi Ma Temple women have warned that they will block the main Indravati road if water is not supplied soon. The departmental officers have been warned that they will be held responsible if any untoward situation arises. The protestors later dispersed after making these demands.
