Malkangiri, 6th Oct 2025: In the recently held State-Level Judo Championship, organized under the aegis of the Odisha State Judo Association from September 27 to 30 at KT Global School, Khordha, judo athletes from Malkangiri district participated in multiple categories — Sub-Junior, Junior, Cadet, and Senior (Men & Women) — and made the district proud by bagging a total of ten medals.
Most of the participating players and officials from Malkangiri belong to various tribal communities, and notably, some of the athletes come from underprivileged backgrounds, including orphans and children from single-parent families.
Medal Winners from Malkangiri:
- Sub-Junior Category:
- Mahesh Hantal – Bronze Medal in 30 kg category
- Binod Chalan – Gold Medal in 40 kg category
- Simanchal Dalapati – Silver Medal in 45 kg category
- Karna Sisa – Bronze Medal in 35.5 kg category
- Chandini Madkami – Bronze Medal in her weight category
- Jaga Madhi – Bronze Medal in 35 kg category
Cadet Category:
- Arjun Khara – Bronze Medal in 50 kg category
Junior Category:
- Ram Madhi – Bronze Medal in 50 kg category
Senior Women’s Category:
- Lakshmi Sodhi – Silver Medal in 52 kg category
- Sumitra Madhi – Silver Medal in 57 kg category
National Selection:
Among all, Mahesh Hantal and Binod Chalan from the sub-junior category have qualified to represent Odisha at the National Judo Championship, to be held in Hyderabad in the first week of November.
This achievement was made possible through the joint efforts of the District Judo Association and the AOMA Guru Cool, who provided consistent training and support to these athletes. The opportunity to participate at the state level came as a result of their dedicated preparation.
