Malkangiri Observes District-Level World Red Cross Day with Enthusiasm

Malkangiri: World Red Cross Day was observed under the auspices of the District Administration, the Red Cross Society, and Malkangiri College Youth Red Cross Unit. The theme of this year’s celebration was “On the Path of Humanity.” Presided over by Chairperson Premarekha Bhatra, the event was inaugurated by the Vice President of the Red Cross Society and Additional District Magistrate, Bedabar Pradhan, as the Chief Guest.

Special guest Somnath Pradhan, Member of the Malkangiri College Managing Committee and also an Additional District Magistrate, along with Youth Red Cross volunteers and dignitaries present, advised everyone to establish themselves through selfless service. The keynote speaker, senior professor Ashok Kumar Sadhangi, spoke in detail about the life and service of Jean Henri Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross, whose birth anniversary is marked by this occasion.

Umesh Chandra Raut, Head of the English Department, highlighted the significance of the day. The event began with participation from National Service Scheme (NSS) Officer Gautam Nayak, former officer Pramaya Kumar Mahanti, and Abhimanyu Dal Behera, all of whom contributed to the success of the program.

A photograph of Jean Henri Dunant was garlanded, and a ceremonial lamp was lit by the guests. The dignitaries were honored with floral bouquets and shawls. Dr. Gupteswar Rao, Pramod Parida, Manoranjan, Dasharathi Sandhi, Narendra Soti, and Chemistry Lecturer Satati explained the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross to the students.

More than 50 volunteers, non-teaching staff, and alumni participated enthusiastically. District Red Cross Coordinator and Secretary Dr. Ranjan Kumar Swain welcomed the guests and also conducted the proceedings. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Shri Shri Swain.
