Puri, 13th Aug 2025: Proposal to make the Shree Jagannath Temple Act stricter and introduce amendments. Four proposals have been submitted to the government regarding changes to the temple law. Strict punishment for anyone caught bringing a camera into the temple. Penalty provisions for knowingly using a mobile phone inside the temple premises. Posting content related to the Lord’s rituals or traditions on social media will lead to an NBW (Non-Bailable Warrant) and up to 7 years in prison. Independent penalty provisions for flying a drone over the temple. Penalty provisions will be implemented based on the recommendations of the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee. Under the existing 1955 Shree Jagannath Temple Act, punishments of up to 3 years are already in place.
