Mahkuma Various shops in the market area of Mahkuma, Jharigaon Block, have been left in a chaotic condition. During the travel break, hundreds of people from surrounding areas gathered there.
There has been no permanent arrangement yet to maintain cleanliness in the Mahkuma area. After the construction of drains on both sides of the main road in the town, they have been blocked. Due to the lack of proper drainage system, rainwater accumulates on the main road, leading to waterlogging, and dirty water has been stagnating on the streets during the rainy days. Waste disposal systems have been constructed but are not in use.
Regarding waste management, Jharigaon Panchayat Sarpanch Jogeswar Pujari mentioned that a decision has been taken for waste management, and a vehicle has been arranged to collect the waste. He added that after the main road is widened, the drains will be repaired immediately, and a proper waste disposal system will be implemented.
Jharigaon (AROP) 09/05 – Proper waste management is critically necessary for maintaining a clean environment. Without it, the surroundings get polluted. A cleanliness campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission has been initiated by the government to keep both urban and rural areas clean. However, even though the Panchayat has allocated funds for waste disposal, the cleanliness situation in Mahkuma area and the management of waste remain in a deplorable state.
The main road of the village has waste material and discarded items scattered on both sides. Recently, a Kalash Yatra was concluded, with a market fair at Mina Bazaar. Shops selling water, ice cream, sweets, fruits, and toys were active during the procession. During this event, a large crowd gathered, leading to waste and discarded items accumulating along the route from Kalash Mandap to Mina Bazaar, causing further environmental pollution.
The Panchayat administration has been informed about this situation, but effective action has yet to be taken.
