Jharsuguda– While valuable government lands in various parts of Lakhanpur are under the clutches of illegal encroachers, there is growing public hope that after the change of government in the state, such lands will be freed from the grip of encroachers and utilized for public welfare.
In this context, it has come to light that a piece of valuable land at Kadamdihi Chhak under Lakhanpur Block has been illegally encroached upon and a market complex has been unlawfully constructed there. Allegations have been made that this complex is being used for generating illegal income. A written complaint regarding this matter was submitted to the Lakhanpur Tahsildar on August 27, 2024, by the Kadamdihi Sarpanch, Samiti member, and several local intellectuals.
However, no departmental action has been taken so far, leading to public dissatisfaction. According to the complaint, a market complex has been unlawfully built over Plot No. 311, Khata No. 2, covering 0.06 acres, and this illegal construction has been ongoing for a long time. The area, being a central hub, serves not only nearby villages but also many people from neighboring Sundargarh district. People come to the Kadamdihi Bus Stand for the weekly market and to access educational, legal, and essential services. However, during extreme heat or rain, they face hardship as there is no proper shelter at this junction.
Therefore, local intellectuals have demanded that this valuable government land at Kadamdihi Chhak be freed from illegal occupation and a high-standard passenger waiting area be constructed in its place.
Responding to the issue, Lakhanpur Tahsildar Prashna Patel has stated that the complaint regarding the illegal occupation has been received and action will certainly be taken to free the land. However, the land in question falls under the jurisdiction of the district’s Eastern Division, and until a letter for eviction is received from that department, no action can be initiated. Once the letter is received, necessary steps will be taken.
