Local Administration Steps Up to Support Helpless Family in Need

Nabarangpur: A widow, Sasmita Harijan, living in Ward No. 16 of Nabarangpur Municipality at Bhatishalguda slum (behind the Women’s College), has been struggling to survive along with her four children, facing extreme hunger and poverty. Due to financial constraints, she has been unable to provide medical treatment for her son.

After the tragic story of this helpless family was published in ‘Pragatibadi’ on the 28th, the district administration promptly took action. As per the directions of District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Suresh Pattnayak, Child Protection Unit officers Hetanand Nayak and Chaturbhuj Nayak visited the family and presented Sasmita and her four children before the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

In the presence of CWC Chairperson Ajanta Subhadarshini and other members, the administration arranged for Sasmita’s elder daughter, Meera, and her son, Sahil, to be admitted to a residential school. Additionally, after submitting the necessary documents, arrangements will be made for her son Ahan’s medical treatment, according to DCPO Suresh Pattnayak.

It is noteworthy that Sasmita’s husband, Govinda Harijan, passed away two years ago, leaving her and their four children in a dire situation.
