Dhenkanal : A powerful lightning strike late Sunday night caused the complete collapse of the eastern facade of the world-famous Mahima Gadi Temple in Joranda, Dhenkanal district.

Around 6 AM today, locals of the Joranda area arrived at the site upon receiving the news and gathered to inspect the damage within the temple premises. According to sources from the Mahima sect, the lightning strike was so intense that Ram Das, a caretaker of the temple, reportedly lost hearing in one ear due to the loud thunder.

Residents of the area have demanded that the government provide financial assistance for the restoration and maintenance of the smaller shrines within the Mahima Gadi temple complex.
