Nabarangpur: A six-member Legislative Assembly Standing Committee visited Nabarangpur district and attended a review meeting held at the local Mission Shakti Conference Hall. The meeting was chaired by Dabugaon MLA Manohar Randhari and included Koraput MLA Raghuram Machha, Kotpad MLA Rupu Bhatra, Nabarangpur MLA Gauri Shankar Majhi, Malkangiri MLA Narsingh Madkami, and Mohana MLA Dasarath Gamang.
At the beginning of the meeting, District Collector Dr. Subhankar Mahapatra welcomed all attendees. The guest MLAs performed a ceremonial lamp lighting and worship before discussions began. The committee was honored with traditional wooden handicrafts by the district administration.
Before the meeting, the committee visited schools in Bada Ambada and Kerandimal under Kosagumuda block. They interacted with students and teachers, assessed the educational environment, and emphasized quality teaching. They warned against any negligence by teachers.
The meeting also included discussions on various government schemes under ITDA, approval of PLC meetings, and the swift utilization of funds from the central and state governments. Detailed discussions were held on various departmental activities, including tribal development, welfare programs, district industries, public distribution systems, handicrafts, police housing, irrigation, deep borewells, tourism, TPAs, and DLS initiatives.
The District Labor Officer was instructed to ensure that registered beneficiaries are not exploited by middlemen and that proper verification is done before issuing registration certificates and financial assistance. The committee also urged officials to expedite the construction of OSRTC bus stands and police housing board projects.
The DWO was asked to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras in all schools under the Mangal department, provide quality food, and improve education standards. Teachers were advised to focus on effective teaching methods. The committee also pushed for the establishment of BSNL towers in remote areas to improve connectivity.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Biswajit Barman, the CDMO, Zilla Parishad member Biranchi Narayan Darwan, various departmental officials, and media representatives.
