Puri, 28th Oct 2025:  The district fire department has completed all preparations to face the possible cyclone ‘Mocha’. All modern firefighting equipment, rubber boats, and vehicles are ready to tackle the cyclone.

Puri, 25.10 (News): The district administration has started preparations for the possible cyclone. All officers and employees’ leaves have been canceled until the 30th. Instructions have been issued that no office can be vacated without the District Collector’s permission. District Collector Divyajyoti Parida has reviewed the preparedness work on Saturday.

People living along the sea coast and Chilika Lake have been arranged to be relocated to safe areas. For this purpose, instructions have been issued to Krushnaprasad, Brahmagiri, Astarang, Kakapara Gopa, Puri Sadar, and Tehsildar along with officials from Puri and Konark municipalities. Special attention has been given to 82 tsunami-prone villages.

The District Collector has directed vigilance to prevent any damage to life and property due to the cyclone. Heavy rainfall is expected due to the cyclone. Alert notices have been issued along the coastal areas. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

There is a risk of houses, trees, and electricity poles being damaged by the rain. Fire and rescue teams and police are kept on alert to immediately rescue people. Farmers have been advised to harvest paddy quickly. Measures will be taken to monitor and prevent electrical accidents.

The identification process has started for the Talia and Khalua areas. Schools, along with multi-purpose cyclone shelters, have been prepared.

Instructions have been issued to relocate people to safe areas if necessary. Residents of thatched, mud, or tile houses will also be moved to safe locations. Essential supplies such as food, medicines, dry rations, and drinking water have been ensured by departmental officers.

There is a possibility of fallen trees blocking roads. Therefore, independent teams equipped with necessary tools have been formed to remove them immediately. Electric staff have been kept alert. Fire department teams have been instructed to be ready to assist people. Coordination among public representatives, volunteers, and government staff has been advised.

Coordination with the State Disaster Management Department is ongoing. Government health centers will remain open, with doctors and health staff present 24/7. All departments have been instructed to work according to 11 disaster management plans of the district.

In Puri city, areas such as Pentakata, Chakratirtha, Banki Muhana, Sechan Bihar, Baliapanda, Talabania, Station Bazar, and Basti are under administrative surveillance. Departments like Revenue, Panchayati Agriculture, Health and Family Welfare, Urban Development, Food and Supply, Animal Husbandry, Rural Water Supply, Fire Department, Police, Tata Power, Roads, Rural Development, and Housing have been instructed to remain vigilant.

In anticipation of the cyclone’s impact, roads blocked by fallen trees will be cleared quickly, rainwater drainage measures using motor pumps will be arranged, and fire department teams will be ready for rescue operations even in emergency conditions.

According to Assistant Fire Officer Prabhat Kumar Raut, the following resources are ready for rescue operations:

63 cutter machines

28 ASKA lights

13 power boosts

44 combi tools

34 motor pumps

13 rescue vehicles

2 rubber boats

1 plasma cutter

In the district, including one assistant fire officer, there are 8 station officers, 21 fire department employees, 22 fire department vehicle drivers, and 94 personnel prepared to tackle the cyclone.

12 station officers have been instructed to keep rescue equipment ready at cyclone shelters. On the 27th, 28th, and 29th, 1,049 residents have been warned not to venture into the sea.
