Gunupur, March, 19: The election for various posts of the Gunupur Bar Association in Rayagada district was scheduled to be held on the 28th of this month. However, for the post of President, only two candidates had filed nomination papers, and election was to be conducted only for this single post.
Friday was fixed as the last date for withdrawal of nominations. On that day, Gauri Shankar Das withdrew his nomination. As a result, his opponent, Ramesh Chandra Lima, was declared elected unopposed, informed Election Officer Chandra Shekhar Dhuli.
It is noteworthy that for the post of Secretary, Suraj Patra was the sole candidate, and for the post of Treasurer, Lakshmi Narayan Mahankud was the only candidate to file nominations. Therefore, they were also elected unopposed.
The intellectual community has appreciated the smooth and uncontested election process.
