Malkangiri, 26th Sept 2025: Due to heavy rainfall, a landslide occurred near the Mankad Jhola waterfall, leading to the collapse of a portion of the road and cutting off access to Bandhaghat.
The Bandhaghat area, under Mudulipada Panchayat of Khairput block, has been severely affected. The water flow near the Mankad Jhola waterfall has intensified, resulting in a landslide triggered by the heavy downpour. The main connecting road from Mankad Jhola to Bandhaghat has been blocked due to debris and soil collapse.
Upon receiving the information, Khairput BDO Umashankar Koya, Tahasildar Brajabihari Pradhan, and engineers from the R&B (Roads and Buildings) department visited the site and assessed the situation.
It is important to note that this location is prone to landslides, especially during continuous rainfall, due to loose soil and rockslides. Local intellectuals and residents have suggested that a strong retaining wall and a high-level bridge near the Mankad Jhola waterfall could prevent such incidents in the future.
