Telkoi, 26th Aug 2025: A landslide occurred at Kanjipani Ghat on National Highway 49 under Kanjipani Police Station limits in Keonjhar district. As a result, traffic movement on the highway has come to a standstill for more than 24 hours.
Due to continuous heavy rainfall, the incident took place around 1 AM on Saturday night. Huge amounts of soil, rocks, and uprooted trees slid down from Panisua Hill and blocked the highway completely. Since then, vehicular movement has been paralyzed, cutting off communication.
On the Mumbai–Kolkata route, hundreds of vehicles are stranded on both sides. Passenger buses are being diverted through Telkoi. On the other hand, some goods-laden trucks are moving dangerously along a narrow bypass road on one side of the hill.
The National Highway authorities have started efforts to clear the debris. However, as of Sunday evening, the roadblock could not be removed. Rescue and clearance operations will resume on Monday morning, according to Kanjipani police sources.
