Kundura,30th Aug 2025: For the past two days, several areas of Kundura block have been waterlogged due to rising water levels in the Kolab River and local water bodies in the Upper Mund region. Although rainfall has been limited in some areas of the block, floodwaters have disrupted connectivity across multiple panchayats.
Roads and bridges connecting the block headquarters to villages such as Digapoor, Bagderi, Lima, Asana, Phulvata, and Kerameti are submerged under 2–3 feet of water. In Digapoor, water levels on the Biri River between Nadialpali and Bargam have risen to 3–4 feet. After a slight fall in water level yesterday evening, it has now increased 4–5 times, reaching dangerously close to nearby villages.
The Ghadangaguda bridge has been damaged, and water has entered parts of the Kutariput panchayat, isolating areas like Salpa and Jaypur. If rainfall continues tonight, local residents fear further flooding.
The flood has submerged approximately 500 acres of agricultural land in Digapoor and 600 acres in Kutariput. Standing crops have been damaged, causing significant losses to farmers. The administration, led by Deputy Collector Mr. Samantaray, has surveyed the affected areas and assured compensation for crop losses.
Due to the high water level in Kolab River, smaller rivers surrounding Kundura block cannot drain properly, exacerbating the flooding. Police officials and local administration, including Kundura SDPO Ashwini Kumar Pattanayak and Baiparigaon police officer Rashmi Ranjan Pradhan, have visited the sites and imposed barricades on submerged roads to prevent accidents.
Residents are urged to remain cautious, as waterlogging and disrupted transport continue to pose risks to daily life.
