Kotpad Livestock Department Drives Rural Growth Through Dairy, Poultry & Goatery Initiatives

Kotpad, 23rd July 2025: In the rural heartland of Kotpad, farmers—both men and women—are steadily becoming self-reliant through animal husbandry, including cow rearing, goat farming, poultry, and buffalo care. Backed by the Odisha Government’s Department of Animal Resources Development, a range of initiatives and schemes have been implemented to create sustainable livelihoods and boost rural income.

One of the most impactful interventions has been the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, through which farmers are receiving significant benefits, such as:

  • Subsidized cattle feed,
  • Assistance for grass cultivation,
  • Support for rearing calves and buffaloes, and more.

In the current financial year (2024–25), Kotpad block beneficiaries under the Kamadhenu scheme include:

Pradeep Ch. Raut

Rajendra Prasad Hota

Ajay Majhi

Ram Brishnu Pujari

Sanasai Bhatra

Under the scheme:

General category farmers are eligible for assistance up to Rs 1,38,240.

Scheduled Tribe women farmers can avail benefits up to Rs 1,61,280.

For daily green fodder cultivation, the government provides a 3-year grant of Rs 35,000.

In addition, the department supports women Self Help Groups (SHGs) to venture into goat farming, offering:

₹1,38,000 in aid for rearing 30+2 goats.

SHGs such as Jagruti SHG and Maa Naibedya SHG have already utilized the support and turned goat farming into a profitable venture.

Poultry farming is also flourishing in Kotpad, with beneficiaries like:

Purnima Nayak

Neelakantha Pujari

Lakinath Nayak
achieving success and improved income.

This rural transformation is being driven on the ground by committed officials of the Kotpad Livestock Development Department, including:

Dr. Priyabrata Behera, Senior Veterinary Officer

Dr. Satyabrata Samantray, Kusumi Veterinary Officer

Dr. Prateek Sahu, Mobile Veterinary Officer
along with all livestock inspectors across the block.

These teams are delivering both veterinary care at the panchayat level and ensuring the effective implementation of government schemes.

The message is clear: as livestock wealth grows, so does farmer prosperity, laying the foundation for sustainable rural economic development in Kotpad.
