Koraput: Health conditions are deteriorating due to various factors. From children to the elderly, everyone is now concerned about their well-being. Changing lifestyles, food adulteration, fast food, and junk food consumption are leading to multiple diseases. Amidst this, Shankar Rao has become a friend to the people by opening a health-beneficial herbal juice stall.
Good for Health, Just Rs20 Per Glass
A small stall has been set up beneath the Shabar Shrikhetra Temple, serving only herbal juice from 6 AM to 9 AM. The juice contains bitter gourd, aloe vera, carrot, beetroot, neem, and ragi extracts. Besides that, he also sells green tea, chickpeas, almonds, and peanuts in packaged form. His business revolves around these medicinal juices, serving 150 to 200 customers daily.
Shankar shared that his sons live in Tamil Nadu, where he once saw elderly individuals gathering in the morning to sell such herbal juices. Intrigued, he learned the preparation method and started his own juice stall after returning to Koraput. He has been running this health-oriented juice business for two years now. The juice is served warm, and after consumption, he offers free lemon water to the customers. The price of each juice is only ₹20, and he customizes the juice based on the customers’ health concerns.
After morning walks, people from different walks of life visit his stall, and many have made it a habit. Girija Shankar Nayak, a resident of Bhandisahi, stated that after daily exercise, he regularly drinks either bitter gourd or aloe vera juice, which has greatly benefited his health. Mamta Mohanty, a working woman, mentioned that she never forgets to have a glass of herbal juice after her morning walk, as it has been highly beneficial for her health.
According to Shankar, this business has brought him a double advantage—on one hand, he has become financially self-reliant, and on the other, it has given him mental peace knowing that his work is helping people stay healthy, ultimately contributing to a healthier society.
