Jeypore: The Koraputia song “Chi Chi Chhire Nani Chi Chi” is trending on social media, having garnered over 40 million views, setting an all-time record. This song has attracted artists from across the country and abroad. The creator of this song was the late Satyanarayan Adhikari, a senior lawyer and musician from Jeypore in Koraput district.

However, controversy has arisen because the music company has uploaded the song on YouTube, labeling it as a Sambalpuri song. It is being promoted as a “Sambalpuri super hit song.” Even during Saraswati Puja celebrations in Kolkata, where school students danced to this song, it was misrepresented as a Sambalpuri song.

This misrepresentation has sparked strong reactions from various quarters, with demands for a public apology from the music company. Locals argue that this is a direct attack on Koraput’s identity. Artists have warned that if strict action is not taken against the company, strong protests will follow in the coming days.

Late Satyanarayan Adhikari had sung “Chi Chi Chhire Nani Chi Chi” 32 years ago. The song is now trending widely, with thousands of youths and artists creating and uploading reels featuring it daily. It was originally recorded in 1991 at a Cuttack studio as part of a cassette titled Baliphula, which was released in 1992. The songs from this cassette were well-received at the time. In 2018, Sarthak TV produced a video of the song and uploaded it on YouTube. Since last month, the song has gained immense popularity.

However, while the song’s popularity has soared in states like West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, many were shocked to see it officially released on YouTube as a Sambalpuri song. The Baliphula cassette contained songs reflecting the tribal culture and heritage of Koraput. Labeling such a song as Sambalpuri is considered an insult to the people of Koraput. If immediate corrective actions are not taken, the district’s local organizations have warned of protests against the music company.
