Koraput, Dec, 27: The Koraputia Dhemsha dance mesmerized audiences at the Odisha International Adivasi Festival organized in New Delhi under the guidance of renowned international Odissi dancer Dr. Chandana Raul and hosted by the cultural organization AKS. The festival was held on the 7th of this month at the India International Centre, New Delhi, focusing on the social, cultural, and political rights of India’s tribal communities.
The festival was inaugurated by former Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Faggan Singh Kulaste. Tribal artists from Koraput and Rourkela presented traditional tribal dances and cultural performances during the event.
Artists of the Jani Dudunga Kalakar Sangha from Dasmantpur in Koraput district, led by Kumar Jani, presented Kondh Paraja community lullabies and folk songs, Dhemsha dance, and the Bhado Balani folk drama, and secured first place.
On this occasion, discussions were also held on the art and culture of tribal communities. All participating tribal artists were presented with certificates by the dignitaries, and the Koraput Jani Dudunga troupe was awarded a cash prize of ₹20,000.
Kumar Jani, Secretary of the Jani Dudunga Sangha, demanded an increase in allowances for tribal artists in Koraput district and the provision of comprehensive support and facilities for artists.
