Bhubaneswar, 12th Nov 2025:   The natural beauty and environment of Koraput district have always attracted filmmakers and directors for movie shoots. Earlier, Odia films were often shot here. Now, South Indian film industries—especially Telugu and Tamil cinema—are showing great interest in shooting their films in Koraput.

Recently, renowned director S. S. Rajamouli camped in Koraput for the shooting of his big-budget film “SSBM 29.” Along with him, actor Mahesh Babu and actress Priyanka Chopra also visited Koraput, which became a major topic of discussion among fans and locals.

At present, the Telugu film “Comrade Kalyan”, based on the lifestyle of Naxalites, is being filmed in various scenic locations of the district. The production company is also providing acting opportunities to local youths, allowing them to appear alongside the main actors and actresses in several scenes.

The growing interest of the South Indian film industry in Koraput as a shooting destination has given the district a distinct identity.

Picturesque locations like Deomali, Talamali, and Kaliamali hills are proving to be major attractions. The ongoing shooting of Comrade Kalyan has brought both acting opportunities and temporary employment to local people.

The film is being shot at multiple sites including Jeypore, Semiliguda, the Jagannath Temple in Koraput, and Duduma Falls. Directed by Janaki Ram Marella and produced by Venkata Krishna, the movie stars Telugu actor Sree Vishnu as the lead actor and Malayalam actress Mahima Nambiar as the female lead.

Parts of the film have already been shot at Kaliamali, Dudhari, and Koraput Jagannath Temple. According to Gautam, a youth from Semiliguda assisting the film crew, the shooting will continue across various locations in the district for another 10–12 days.

Pinky Das, a local woman who got a chance to act in the film, expressed her excitement, saying she feels honored and thrilled to be part of the project. The involvement of local artists is providing them exposure and livelihood opportunities, marking a positive development for the region.
