Koraput , 11th Nov 2025: The natural beauty and environment of Koraput district have always attracted film directors and producers for shooting. Earlier, Odia films were shot here. Now, South Indian filmmakers — particularly from the Telugu and Tamil industries — are increasingly choosing Koraput for their movie shoots, drawing large numbers of directors, producers, and actors to the district.

Recently, renowned film director S. S. Rajamouli set up camp in Koraput to shoot scenes for his high-budget movie SSBM 29. Along with him, famous actor Mahesh Babu and actress Priyanka Chopra also visited Koraput, which became a major topic of discussion.

At present, shooting is underway for the Telugu film “Comrade Kalyan,” which is based on the lifestyle of Naxalites.

The film’s production company is giving opportunities to local youths — both men and women — to act in several scenes alongside the main cast. The South Indian film industry’s growing focus on Koraput as a shooting location is giving the district a distinct identity.

Picturesque sites like Deomali, Talimali, and Kaliamali are captivating filmmakers with their scenic natural surroundings. Locals are not only getting a chance to act but also earning employment through these film projects.

The shooting of “Comrade Kalyan” is taking place at various locations across the district, including Jaypur, Semiliguda, Koraput Jagannath Temple, and Duduma Falls. The film is directed by Janaki Ram Marella and produced by Venkata Krishna, starring Telugu actor Sree Vishnu in the lead role and Malayalam actress Mahima Nambiar as the female lead.

Based on the lives of Naxalites, some scenes have already been shot at Kaliamali, Dudhari, and Koraput Jagannath Temple. The production team plans to continue shooting in different parts of the district for another 10 to 12 days, said Gautam, a youth from Semiliguda assisting the production team.

Local actress Pinky Das, who got a role in the film, said she was very excited about the opportunity to act. The inclusion of local artists is providing both exposure and livelihood opportunities to the people of Koraput.
