Koraput Block Launches Subhadra Shakti Traditional Food Competition to Celebrate Culinary Heritage

Koraput,: A block and municipal-level Subhadra Shakti Traditional Food Competition was held at the local Town Hall in Koraput. The event was organized under the chairmanship of Koraput Block Development Officer (BDO) Debashis Goud. The program was inaugurated by Koraput Block Chairperson Namita Majhi, who lit the ceremonial lamp as the chief guest.

Koraput Municipality Chairperson Lalat Ranjan Sethi, Municipal Executive Officer Gyanajit Tripathy, and Koraput Block Vice-Chairperson Siba Golari graced the occasion as distinguished guests.

Around 20 women’s self-help group (SHG) members participated in the competition. Traditional dishes were prepared using indigenous grains like mandia (finger millet), suan (little millet), and kangu (foxtail millet), all cooked using earthen stoves (chulas), showcasing authentic tribal cuisine.

In the competition, the Baba Lokanath Kanath SHG from Rathasharma Colony, Ward No. 9 of Koraput Municipality, secured the first prize. The Merry SHG from Badakerenga under Koraput Block bagged the second prize. These two winning teams will now represent Koraput Block at the upcoming district-level competition scheduled for June 11.

Koraput BDO Debashis Goud, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Savitri Prabha Sahu, and teacher Srujani Pal served as judges for the event. The program was coordinated by Mission Shakti Block Program Coordinator (BPC) Sasmita Khosla, while CMM Manager Shashikant Swain of Koraput Municipality, and MBK, CRP, and Bank Mitras assisted in the management and coordination of the event.
