Koraput, 25th Aug 2025:Despite various initiatives, school dropout rates remain high in Koraput district. According to official data, 19,577 children between the ages of 7 and 18 have dropped out of school.
Among them, 10,498 children are in the 7–15 age group, while 9,079 children aged 16–18 are not attending college.
Block-wise figures show that:
Baipariguda has the highest dropout count with 2,824 students.
Kotpad – 2,118, Jeypore – 1,889, Kundura – 1,830, Borigumma – 1,722, Dashmantpur – 1,940, Bandhugaon – 1,413, Koraput – 1,049, Lamptaput – 596, Lakshmipur – 1,050, Nandapur – 1,355, Pottangi – 1,279, and Semiliguda – 490.
Narayanpatna has the lowest dropout number with 312 students.
To address this issue, the government has launched the “Aas Sikshya Pai, Aas Skul Jiba” (Come to School) campaign.
A meeting chaired by District Collector Manoj Satyaban Mahajan was held at the Sadbhavana Conference Hall, where the district-level committee discussed strategies to bring back all 19,577 children—whether dropouts or never-enrolled—into the mainstream of education. The discussions were guided by government directives, covering various dimensions of child education and retention.
