Kolab Dam Severely Silted, Water Depth Drops Sharply — Koraput Authorities Alarmed

Jeypore, 23rd July 2025: Kolab Dam — the lifeline of Koraput — is now facing a critical crisis due to heavy siltation.
Once a dependable water source for irrigation, drinking, and power generation, the Kolab reservoir has now become heavily silted, leading to a significant reduction in water depth.

This has alarmed local residents and experts, who worry about the dam’s declining storage capacity and its long-term sustainability. The decreasing depth may severely impact agriculture, drinking water supply, and hydroelectric power generation across the region.

There is an urgent demand for desiltation efforts and proper catchment management to restore the dam’s health and protect Koraput’s water security.
