Jeypore, Dec, 27: In Koraput district, a decision was taken on 11th December to open the paddy market. However, even after 94 days, no paddy has been lifted from the market. Neither millers nor any officials have come to collect the paddy. Farmers, eager to sell their produce, have been waiting patiently but have been unable to sell their paddy, which remains stored in the market.
Concerned about the delay in paddy procurement, Kisan Kalyan Manch of Kotpad Block held a protest (dharana) in front of the District Collector’s office and submitted a memorandum demanding immediate action. The delay in paddy procurement is attributed to the forthcoming festival season.
The District Collector has now announced that paddy procurement will begin from today.
