Keonjhar, 16th Oct 2025: To strengthen the public transport system and provide better convenience to passengers, the Keonjhar district administration has launched a new town bus service under the Chief Minister’s Bus Scheme. The service will operate on a new route from the government bus stand through Dhovadia Chhak to Dharanidhar Medical College and Hospital.
With the introduction of this route, a convenient and affordable transport system has been ensured within the town, connecting major public service centers effectively. The new route links key locations such as the Government Bus Stand, District Headquarters Hospital, Keonjhargarh Railway Station, Dharanidhar Medical College and Hospital, and Dharanidhar University.
The service will be available seven times a day at different intervals. This will ensure regular transportation for students, patients, healthcare workers, and the general public throughout the day.
As per the new schedule, the first trip of the day will begin at 5:45 AM from the government bus stand and will continue to provide services throughout the day.
On this occasion, district officials stated that this initiative under the Chief Minister’s Bus Scheme is part of the state government’s continuous efforts to improve public transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and promote affordable mobility for the residents of Keonjhar. The new route is especially beneficial for university students, patients traveling to the District Headquarters Hospital and Dharanidhar Medical College, and daily commuters to the railway station.
It is noteworthy that earlier, under the initiative of former District Collector Tithtwamala Nayak, a town bus service had been started and operated for a short time. However, the service was later discontinued due to operational issues flagged by the Transport Department.
With the government medical college now located 5 kilometers away from Keonjhar town, patients were facing difficulties commuting. Also, due to the exploitation by auto-rickshaw drivers, passengers traveling from the medical college to DD University were subjected to overcharging.
The launch of the town bus service is expected to address many of these transportation issues and provide much-needed relief to daily commuters.
