Kalbaishakhi Winds Uproot Asbestos Roofs of Two Shops in Nandapur

Nandapur Due to the impact of a Kalbaishakhi (Nor’wester) storm on Sunday afternoon, the asbestos roofs of two shops — a mobile shop and a tea-snack stall — located at the Shobhaput village square in Pachhlung panchayat near the Andhra border under Nandapur block, were blown away. Rainwater entered the mobile shop, damaging several new and old phones along with other electronic equipment. Similarly, food items and stored materials in the tea stall were spoiled due to the water.

Mobile shop owner Rabindra Khemundu and tea shop owner Ramana Muduli reported the damage. Rabindra, a resident of Paduwa panchayat, ran his mobile shop 16 kilometers away at Shobhaput square. Ramana and his wife Mithula jointly ran their tea-snack stall to support their family.

Both families, belonging to economically weaker sections, now face significant financial losses and are worried about how to reopen their shops without roofs. Local residents have demanded government assistance for the affected families.

Upon receiving the information, the Nandapur tehsildar’s office has instructed revenue inspector Pinku Burudi of Kularsing to visit the site and submit a report. Based on this report, it is said that government aid will be provided.
