Papadahandi, 17th Nov 2025:  A journalist and two teachers narrowly escaped a bear attack near Daleiguda on National Highway 201 in Papadahandi block of Nabarangpur district. The journalist and one of the teachers sustained minor injuries. Villagers rescued all three and safely sent them back home.

According to reports, district journalist Sumit Kumar Ghanta, teacher Trilochan Baral, and teacher Sujit Biswaoyi of Papadahandi village had gone for an evening outing to Daleiguda around 9 PM on Tuesday. After reaching Daleiguda, they were sitting on a culvert near the Nilakantheswar Mill beside the road.

At that moment, a bear suddenly attacked them from behind. Journalist Sumit and teacher Baral fell off the roadside into a ditch. Meanwhile, a vehicle coming from Maidalpur passed by without noticing them. Two of the men received minor injuries.

Later, Basanta Gauda of Daleiguda village rescued the three men using a car and dropped them at their respective homes.

Since many men and women from Papadahandi go out for evening walks, villagers have demanded that the Forest Department take immediate steps to ensure public safety in the area. It is believed that the bear got scared by the horn of a passing Bolero vehicle.
