Jharigaon, Dec, 10: For the past few days, the weather in the Jharigaon area has been highly unpredictable. Some days it is cloudy, some days it rains, and on others, the intense cold combined with thick fog engulfs both villages and towns. The weather seems completely out of sync with normal seasonal patterns.
For the past two days, the daytime sky has remained cloudy, and last Saturday, there was light rainfall in the Jharigaon region. By evening, however, the sky clears, and the silvery moonlight shines brightly, while the cold becomes more severe.
Early mornings are completely covered with a blanket of fog across the rural landscape. The surroundings—fields, roads, courtyards—are all cloaked in white. For the last two days, the local market too has appeared draped in this white layer, marking a rising intensity of cold.
By 8 p.m., the town becomes almost deserted. After 9 p.m., the streets turn silent and empty. People avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary. Because of the dense fog, the chances of road accidents have increased. Vehicle lights can illuminate only 15 to 20 feet ahead, making visibility beyond that nearly impossible.
According to today’s weather reports, the temperature in the next 24 hours will remain around 59°F, with a maximum of 15°C during the day and a minimum of 25°C at night. (Note: These Celsius values seem unusual for winter; they may be reported incorrectly in the original.)
Climate change is affecting seasonal patterns, and the usual stability of weather conditions seen in earlier years is no longer present.
