Jharigaon, 16th July 2025 : Pradipta Mishra, a native of Anyasipur village in Jajpur district, who served as a pharmacist at the Jharigaon Cluster Health Centre in Nabarangpur district for 30 years since 1995, has now retired from service. On Sunday, the villagers of Jharigaon organized a grand felicitation ceremony to honor him.
More than a hundred villagers first gathered at the Medical Colony in Jharigaon, where they brought Mr. Mishra, along with his wife and son, from their house in a procession through the village. Later, a felicitation meeting was held at the Jagannath Temple premises in Jharigaon.
At a time when no one was willing to work in Jharigaon, Mr. Mishra joined his duties there. The health center had only one doctor, and due to lack of awareness in the block, hundreds of people suffered from malaria and diarrhea. From 1995 to 2012, during the time when there was only a single doctor at the Jharigaon health center, Mr. Mishra was known to be a reliable support.
He was instrumental in TB testing and leprosy diagnosis and provided medications from 2001 to 2009, as mentioned during the event. Mr. Mishra officially retired on June 30, but even after retirement, he continues to provide free medical care at his home in the mornings and evenings. Villagers said that if a patient is unable to come, he visits their homes personally to offer treatment.
During the felicitation, a certificate of honor and a memento were presented to him by the villagers.
The event was organized and managed by Priyaranjan Das, Prasna Majhi, Balveer Prasad Sharma, Sadashiv Pattnaik, Rajesh Pattnaik, Mohan Pradhani, Prafulla Pradhani, Gokul Pattnaik, Sanjay Lenka, Subash Pattnaik, Prem Panda, Muralidhar Nayak, Brajakishore Das, Nabakishore Das, Ashish Lenka, Amit Pattnaik, and Keshab Kudumi, among others.
