Jeypore’s Daughter Embarks on Historic Mission, Making Waves in the Spotlight

Kotpad 29th January 2025 Among the 124 women selected for this Antarctica expedition, Dr. Sarita, the daughter of late Dr. Raman Rao from Koraput and a former CDMO of Jeypore, has also secured a place. Dr. Sarita mentioned that these 124 women specialists were selected globally by the New Zealand-based “Homeward Bound” organization for this historic mission. The team embarked on their journey from Ushuaia in Argentina via a ship named “Satan Cruise.” After reaching Argentina, they will conduct seven days of research that will benefit global welfare.

This team comprises women professionals specializing in science, engineering, mathematics, and health fields. The team includes geochemists, mathematicians, marine biologists, defense experts, and doctors. Along with Sarita, five other Indian women based in the UK are also part of the expedition. They are Indu Aditya Gupta, Kalaivani Jayasilan, Dr. Neelam Patel, Dr. Pallavi Pratibadi, and Dr. Saniya Deshpande. The team also has the highest representation from Australia, with 50 women, followed by participants from the USA, New Zealand, China, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, and India.

Dr. Sarita is currently working as a senior medical officer in the civil aviation department in New Zealand. She has earned her MD in Aerospace Medicine, completed postgraduate studies in Space Science, and has a PhD in Human Factor Engineering. Over two decades, she has served as a trainer in India, the USA, Singapore, and New Zealand. Additionally, she has been appointed as the “Mentor of Space for Women” by the UN.

Dr. Sarita spent her childhood in Jeypore’s Nua Sahi, where she completed her matriculation at a local public school. After completing her +2 at Vikram Dev College, she pursued her MBBS at MKCG Medical College in Berhampur. Later, she completed her MD at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Bengaluru and pursued an MS in Space Science at the International Space University in Strasbourg, France.
