Jeypore Police Launch Special Drive Against Tobacco Sales Near Schools

Narayanpatna, 13th Sept 2025: In a significant step to safeguard public health and ensure the safety of students, the Jaypur Police in Koraput district have launched a special crackdown on the illegal sale of tobacco products near educational institutions.

The initiative aims to eliminate the easy availability of tobacco to school and college students by targeting shops operating close to campuses. During the raids, police have seized a large quantity of tobacco products from vendors found violating the law.

Legal action has been initiated against the violators under:

  • Section 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
  • Sections 6 and 24 of the COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act)

The police administration has made it clear that no tolerance will be shown towards the sale of tobacco near schools and colleges. They also announced that such enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to ensure compliance.

This move is being welcomed by many as a necessary step toward protecting youth from harmful addictions and creating a healthier learning environment.
