Jeypore District Hospital Shines in Infrastructure, But Doctor Shortage Hits Patient Care

17th July 2025, Jeypore:  Jeypore District Hospital boasts a well-maintained and beautiful environment. The hospital is clean and well-equipped, with strong infrastructure. However, due to a severe shortage of doctors, patient care remains poor. As a major town in South Odisha and a key transit hub, Jeypore was long demanding its Sub-Divisional Hospital be upgraded to a District Headquarters Hospital.

After efforts to establish a medical college in Koraput began, in 2018, the District Headquarters Hospital of Koraput was officially shifted to Jeypore. Initially, the hospital functioned from the Mother & Child Health (MCH) Centre in Phulbenda. Later, with an investment of Rs 100 crore, a new seven-storey hospital building was constructed on 23 acres of land in Phulbenda, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on December 15, 2024.

Though the new, grand hospital raised hopes for better treatment, patients soon realized that despite the impressive building, doctors were missing.
