Malkangiri, 24th Sept 2025:  Tribal youth Jayanti Buruda from Malkangiri district has once again brought pride to the region by receiving the Martha Farrell Award at a ceremony held in New Delhi. The prestigious award recognizes individuals across India for their dedicated service, awareness efforts, and empowerment initiatives, especially among tribal communities and women.

Jayanti’s name was among the notable recipients in the 9th Martha Farrell Award ceremony, which aims to honor individuals working tirelessly for the upliftment and rights of marginalized communities.

Hailing from a region inhabited by tribal groups like the Bonda, Didai, and Koya, Jayanti has been working at the grassroots level — educating tribal adolescents, empowering young tribal women, and conducting awareness campaigns. Fondly known as “Badi Didi”, she plays a critical role in guiding tribal women toward self-reliance and development.

Her work also includes highlighting the traditional livelihoods and cultures of tribal people and helping connect their way of life with modern developmental opportunities.
