Sambalpur, 15th Sept 2025: An outbreak of jaundice has once again started in the Danipali area of Sambalpur city. There are serious allegations that Bhola Nath Suna (35), a security guard at a social organization, has died due to jaundice. Additionally, three minors in the same locality have reportedly been infected, according to their families.
One of the affected families has raised questions about the local water supply system. On the other hand, Additional District Public Health Officer Dr. Dash has said that he was not aware of the jaundice situation in the area.
According to sources, Bhola Nath Suna had been suffering from jaundice for several days and was being treated at a private clinic, as stated by his neighbors. He leaves behind two children and his wife. Though a resident of Dhuchurapada, he spent most of his time in Danipali, where he worked. This raises more concern.
Concerns Over Contaminated Water Supply – Hepatitis Diagnosed
Three minors from the area have been diagnosed with acute viral hepatitis (a form of jaundice):
A 14-year-old son of Sujit Mitra
An 11-year-old son of Jitendra Nath
A young girl from the locality
Sujit stated that his son has been sick for the last five days, and doctors have confirmed it as waterborne viral jaundice (hepatitis). Lab reports confirm this diagnosis.15th Sept 2025:
Sujit also complained that a new pipeline was recently laid for water supply, but muddy water is coming through it. He directly blamed the poor water quality for the outbreak and questioned the sanitation efforts.
Although WATCO (Water Corporation) has claimed no complaints of contaminated water in Danipali have been received, they have assured water quality testing will be conducted tomorrow.
Local Residents Demand Immediate Action
There has always been fear of jaundice outbreaks in Sambalpur. Local residents are now urging the district administration to take urgent steps regarding the jaundice situation in Danipali and improve the water supply system.
