Koraput: The second phase of restoration work of the historic and much-discussed Jagannath Sagar — considered the lifeline of Jeypore town in Koraput district — has commenced today with funding from the state government.
For this purpose, a tender worth ₹8.40 crore was floated, and Raip Organization from Kalahandi district secured the contract by quoting 9.99% less than the estimated amount. The work is expected to be completed within six months.
This long-awaited initiative is a result of sustained efforts and agitation by the people of Jeypore and the members of the “Mo Jagannath Sagar Trust”. Supporting the cause, local MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Municipal Chairman Narendra Kumar Mohanty, Koraput District Collector V. Keerthi Vasan, Jeypore Sub-Collector Akbaram Sasya Reddy, the Municipal Executive Officer, and Municipal Engineer were present at the site. After performing a ceremonial puja, the contractor officially began the restoration work.
