Bhubaneswar, 24th Sept 2025: It is often said that doctors are like incarnations of God, and this has been truly proven by Dr. Bharat Chandra Bhuyan, a retired doctor who himself is suffering from cancer but continues to serve patients. Although it may sound unbelievable, Dr. Bhuyan retired from government service at the age of 62.
He is currently battling advanced stomach cancer but has been continuously serving patients for nearly 17 years. Earlier, he was the head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at Capital Hospital. Throughout his career, Dr. Bhuyan treated thousands of patients and never imagined that he too would one day suffer from stomach cancer.
Despite the bleak prognosis, he never lost hope mentally. After learning about his illness, he went to Mumbai in March this year, where an experienced surgeon successfully operated on his stomach cancer. After only 15 days of rest at home, women patients, especially expecting mothers, began to follow him for his successful treatment and affordable, compassionate care.
As a result, even now at the age of 77, Dr. Bhuyan treats over a hundred patients daily at his own clinic, receiving their blessings and gratitude. He says that providing excellent treatment at low cost has earned him the blessings of his patients. Those blessings and the act of serving patients have helped him forget his own illness.
He is now fully healthy and completely dedicated to patient care. Dr. Bhuyan says he will continue serving patients as long as God keeps him healthy.
Starting his career from Kendrapara, he served in places like Dashapalla, Bhubaneswar, Brahmapur, and Baleswar. For his exemplary service, he has been honored many times at the government level.
Even as a patient, serving others gives him immense peace, and his story is an inspiration for other doctors as well.
