Nandapur: A wild bear cub that had wandered into a village in search of food and water from the forest was rescued on Tuesday morning from a well in Bhandari Sahi, located in the Nandapur block headquarters. The Nandapur Fire Services team, led by OIC Chittaranjan Panjia, carried out the rescue and handed over the cub to the Forest Department.

Upon receiving information, Nandapur Block Veterinary Officer Dr. Ajit Kumar Pati and Mobile Veterinary Officer Dr. Shishir Das reached the Nandapur Forest Office to conduct a health check-up of the bear cub. The cub is estimated to be around 3 years old. Reportedly, it had fallen into the well after running frightened through the village. Dr. Pati confirmed that the cub had sustained injuries and was bleeding from multiple areas of its body.

After providing initial medical treatment, the cub was kept in a secured enclosure at the Forest Department premises. Once its condition stabilized, it was released into the Semiliguda forest area in the evening, in the presence of Forest Ranger T. Panda and Nandapur Forester Gopinath Pangi.
