Nabarangpur, Feb, 10:A discussion and preparatory meeting for Census 2027 was held on Thursday at the Ashok Mehta Conference Hall of the Nabarangpur Collector’s Office under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain.
Additional District Magistrate (General) Tapan Kumar Khuntia, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Biswajit Barman, Sub-Collector Prakash Kumar Mishra, and other officials were present at the meeting. Deputy Director Jayakrishna Bhoi from the Directorate of Census Operations, Bhubaneswar, gave a detailed presentation through a PowerPoint on the government’s approach, preparations, steps, and procedures for Census 2027.
This will be the 16th Census of India and the 8th Census after Independence. In the district, the District Collector will serve as the Principal Census Officer. A total of 12 Census Charge Officers along with around 3,300 enumerators and supervisors will be engaged until the completion of the census process. Master trainers will provide training to the enumerators and supervisors.
For the first time, the Census will be conducted through digital mode. Citizens will be able to respond to 33 personal questions related to the Census through a designated mobile application from April 1, 2026 to April 15, 2026.
In the first phase, house listing and housing census will be conducted from April 16, 2026 to May 15, 2026. In the second phase, enumerators will visit households door-to-door to conduct the population census from February 9, 2027 to February 28, 2027. Those who wish to correct their personal details will be able to do so between March 1, 2027 and March 5, 2027.
The census will collect data on housing, economic status, education, and various other aspects, which will help in the formulation of government schemes and ensure better governance in the future. Census officials will review the data through the designated portal and take necessary steps accordingly.
District-level officers, all Tahasildars and Additional Tahasildars, Executive Officers of Nabarangpur and Umerkote Municipalities, and other census-related staff were present at the meeting.
