Bhubaneswar: Odisha has shown significant improvement in justice delivery under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The state has moved up from 11th to 8th rank among the 18 states of India. This improvement is based on the analysis of crime rates over the past 90 years and the efforts made in strengthening the justice system, including police arrangements, improved prison management, and legal assistance.
The previous government’s efforts to construct new judicial complexes and digitize the Odisha High Court have been appreciated. Additionally, the previous government contributed to ensuring women’s participation in legal assistance programs. However, some states, such as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, are ranked lower in the justice delivery sector.
Despite Odisha’s improvements, it is essential for the government to focus on internal development and modernization of police systems. Expanding budgets for the police, improving training, recruitment, and timely delivery of justice are necessary for further progress. Odisha’s efforts in speeding up justice delivery are now being recognized as an example to follow.
The report indicates that Odisha has made commendable progress in terms of police reforms, law enforcement, and justice delivery.
