Bhubaneswar, 26th Sept 2025: : Durga Puja holidays will begin from 29th September. Since 28th September falls on Sunday, the 27th September will be the last working day or ‘Last Working Day’ for teachers. On this day, schools will remain open, and students will attend classes as usual. Especially for students of 9th and 10th grades, daily classes are very important.
However, on the same day, the independent OTET (Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test) exam is scheduled to be held. About 75,000 teachers and educators will be appearing for this exam. As a result, many schools are expected to face a shortage of teachers.
This move by the board has sparked intense discussions. If the exam had been conducted on a holiday, there would have been no problem. But since the exam is scheduled on a working day, it will disrupt normal teaching activities in many schools.
In many blocks, BEOs (Block Education Officers) have been advised to manage the situation by bringing teachers from nearby schools. Many teachers, educators, and parents have expressed their displeasure and opposed the board’s careless arrangement.
Hence, educators have advised conducting the exam on a different holiday instead of the 27th.
