Independence Day Gift: CM Announces Extra 5 KG Rice for Poor Families

Bhubaneswar:18th Aug 2025:  On the occasion of the 79th State-level Independence Day celebration, the Chief Minister announced that an additional 5 kilograms of rice per month will be provided free of cost to poor families.

According to the announcement, in addition to the existing entitlement, households in the eight KBK districts along with Boudh, Gajapati, and Kandhamal districts will receive this extra rice. Making the declaration at Gandhi Marg, the Chief Minister said that this step has been taken to support vulnerable families.

The announcement has been widely welcomed by the people. Addressing the citizens in the presence of the Director General of Police, the Chief Secretary, and other dignitaries, the Chief Minister also declared the establishment of 21 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) to meet the needs of the 17% urban population of the state.

Further, the Chief Minister announced the implementation of the Agniveer Training Scheme in Odisha, aimed at empowering youth with skills, strengthening them for employment, and creating opportunities for them to serve the nation.

During the 79th Independence Day celebrations at Gandhi Marg, the Chief Minister interacted warmly with the public. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida hoisted the flag in Cuttack, while Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo did so in Keonjhar district. Ministers also visited various districts to join the Independence Day celebrations.

Remembering the sacrifices of great freedom fighters and martyrs who fought for India’s independence and unity, the 79th Independence Day was observed with pride and reverence from villages to cities across the state.
