IMD Issues Red Alert for Keonjhar & Mayurbhanj as Depression Hits Odisha

Bhubaneswar, 26th July 2025: A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal on July 23. This system is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area by Thursday, July 24, bringing widespread heavy rainfall across Odisha. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), intense showers are likely to continue in various parts of the state till July 28.

Rainfall is expected to begin from Wednesday, especially in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada, with heavy downpours.

 Mayurbhanj and Balasore are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rain. Meanwhile, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Angul are also likely to receive heavy rainfall.

Additionally, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri may witness rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

 Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

 Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh are likely to experience intense rains.

The IMD has advised people in vulnerable areas to remain alert for potential flooding and waterlogging during this period.
