Chandrashekharpur, 3rd Sept 2025: The temporary transport station (TTS) near Sainik School has now created a problematic situation for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). The State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) has directed BMC to submit a report by September 3 regarding the conditions under which illegal parking is taking place there. Based on complaints from local residents, SPCB member secretary instructed the BMC commissioner on August 30 to provide information based on six points.
People have complained about illegal parking in the Gadakan area. They pointed out that since 2002, BMC has been illegally allowing dumping near the Sainik School campus, creating dangers to the lives of the people. SPCB has completely failed to provide safety to the residents. Locals have alleged that the report submitted by the BMC commissioner to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) contradicts previous commitments.
SPCB has demanded immediate action to stop illegal parking here. They have asked for a fine of one lakh rupees per hour from BMC from 2002 to 2025, immediate clearance of the illegal parking at the TTS, and removal of machines operating dry parking within the area. Residents from Gadakan along with people from Vishnagar, Railway Bihar, Rangamatia, Laxmibihar, Dhirukuti Sahi, and Gajapati Nagar lodged complaints on August 25.
Basudev Bhatt, a member of the “Save Sainik School, Remove Illegal Parking” campaign, said BMC has repeatedly violated regulations and misled people. While BMC presents some statements to the court regarding the temporary transport station, it has submitted misleading information to the Pollution Board. Since SPCB has now asked for a report, if BMC submits false information again, they will face strict action, Bhatt warned.
