Bhubaneswar Sujata R. Karthikeyan, the Principal Secretary of the Finance Department, has taken voluntary retirement from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). The Central Government had approved her retirement request, which she had submitted on the 13th of this month. The Central Personnel Department has officially informed the State Chief Secretary about this decision through a letter.
Sujata Karthikeyan, from the 2000 IAS batch, was the first female District Collector of Cuttack. Under her leadership, the Mission Shakti initiative, aimed at empowering and making women self-reliant, turned into a mass movement. After its continued success, the State Government elevated Mission Shakti to a full-fledged department.
Her contributions will always be remembered, especially for strengthening 70 lakh women through 7,000 women’s self-help groups (SHGs) across the state. Additionally, in 2023, she served as the Secretary of the Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Department. She played a crucial role in organizing the first-ever World Odia Language Conference in Odisha, serving as a key facilitator for the event.
