Rayagada: 14th February 2025 According to regulations, fire extinguishers must be installed in schools to ensure the safety of students. The government has provided fire extinguishers and related safety equipment to all schools. However, with the summer season approaching, it has been observed that except for a few private schools, most government and private schools in Rayagada district lack these essential fire safety measures.
In the event of an accident, there are no immediate safety measures in place. Many schools are located far from the district’s main fire safety office, causing delays in the arrival of fire brigade services.
Out of over 200 schools in the district headquarters area, none have proper fire safety arrangements. This raises concerns about accountability if an accident occurs, especially in remote schools.
Currently, only 4 to 5 private schools in the district have installed fire extinguishers, with registrations being done online for convenience. Rayagada Regional Fire Safety Director Veerabhadra Tudu emphasized the urgent need for all school authorities to implement these safety measures to protect their students.
