16th July 2025, Dabugaon : For the first time in the history of the district, a member of the transgender community has been granted a land patta (title deed) by the government. Mangal Dei Nayak, a member of the District Transgender Association, was allotted four cents of homestead land by the Dabugaon Tehsil office. This historic moment marks a significant milestone for the district.
Since the formation of the District Transgender Association, several issues faced by the transgender community have been addressed. Notably, this is not the first initiative — earlier, for the first time in district history, the administration had issued labour cards to transgender individuals. Additionally, private bus passes had been provided, and under the Central Government’s Ujjwala Yojana, LPG gas stoves were distributed to some members of the transgender community.
Following the broadcast of this news, residents across the district expressed their happiness and appreciation.
On this occasion, District Transgender Association President Manoj Kumar Pattnaik, Chairperson Kajal Kinnar, Secretary Chumuki Kinnar, advisor Sharmistha Deo, Kishori Pattnaik, Swarnalata Pattnaik, Nininbanu Tripathy, Durga Padhi, Srinibas Pattnaik, Bar Association President and advisor Sirajuddin Ahmad, legal advisor Ram Prasad Patra, Project Leader M. Bala Krishna Rao, and Chief Advisor of the association Jagannath Mahapatra, along with transgender and non-transgender members from all blocks of the district, were present.
They collectively expressed their gratitude to the Government of Odisha, District Collector Dr. Shubankar Mahapatra, and the district administration for their continuous support and progressive steps toward inclusivity.
