Helmets Save Lives: Many Accident Victims in Cuttack Get a Second Chance

Cuttack:15th Sept 2025: Road accidents have devastated families and claimed lives. But in many cases, life was saved just because the person was wearing a helmet. A new life was given.

According to reports, in the past three years, helmets have saved 5,527 lives, even though accidents did occur. This is a powerful example of how following road safety rules can save lives. Previously, data revealed that 5,160 lives were lost in the state due to not wearing helmets over a span of a few years.

Now, another important fact has come to light from accident reviews: those wearing helmets during road accidents managed to survive, even if they were injured. Just in 2024, there were 2,397 such two-wheeler riders who were involved in road accidents, suffered injuries, but their heads were protected because they were wearing helmets — their lives were saved.

In 2023, the number was 2,397, and in 2022, it was 1,688. The number of lives saved could be even higher, as such incidents might not all be reported or recorded.

Accidents come without warning — they destroy everything in an instant. But many are able to save their lives through their own alertness and awareness. They are able to protect their families from devastation.

Rashmita Nayak, a road accident survivor, said:

> “I met with an accident while riding a scooter in Bhubaneswar. The accident was so severe that I feared I might not survive. I had serious injuries. But, by God’s grace and because I was wearing a helmet, my life was saved.”

Amiya Bala Parida, who lost her son in a road accident, said:

> “That accident devastated my entire family. I lost my son. If only he had worn a helmet that day, he might have still been with us. My request to everyone is: whenever you ride a two-wheeler, always wear a helmet.”
