Baipariguda, 2nd Sept 2025:: The region has witnessed heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. From Monday morning to this morning, 102 mm of rainfall has been recorded. As a result, all the rivers and streams in the local area have swelled and overflowed. Transportation has been disrupted in several places. National Highway 26 was submerged under 4 feet of floodwater, leading to a complete disruption of traffic between Malkangiri and Koraput. After around three hours of reduced rainfall, the situation gradually normalized.
There have been reports of houses collapsing due to the rain. The local Tehsildar office stated that an assessment of the damages will be conducted and aid will be provided accordingly.
Due to the overflowing Kurllagada River near Ganginiguda, the NH-26 at Baipariguda remained underwater for three hours, cutting off the Malkangiri-Koraput route. Locals had to take alternate routes to reach Baipariguda.
The Baipariguda-Gupteswar road near Mundaguda was submerged due to the swelling of the Kurllagada River. At Ramgiritha, water from the forest overflowed onto the main road. The Digapur road, which connects Baipariguda to Jaypur, also saw water flowing over it, disrupting vehicular movement.
Koraput, 268 (APR): The district has been witnessing continuous rainfall for the past three days, severely affecting daily life. According to the District Emergency Department, around 33.73 mm of rainfall was recorded from 6 AM Monday to 6 AM Tuesday.
At Lamataput, water was flowing over the culvert, stranding vehicles on both sides. Near Mahuli, on the main road from Baipariguda to Jaypur, a river was overflowing, causing traffic jams. Similarly, near Kotachhak, a steel bridge was also submerged.
While the highest rainfall was recorded in Baipariguda Block at 102.2 mm, other blocks recorded the following:
- Koraput: 22.8 mm
- Pottangi: 22.2 mm
- Bandhugaon: 13.4 mm
- Nandapur: 7.0 mm
- Dashmantpur: 30.0 mm
- Narayanpatna: 16.2 mm
- Laxmipur: 29.2 mm
- Semiliguda: 38.0 mm
Water was also seen accumulating in riverbeds and fields, especially in paddy fields where saplings had already been planted. Once the water recedes, a damage assessment will be conducted, according to local administration.
On the other hand, due to heavy rainfall, the house of Rahaladhar, a resident of Mundaguda in Horaguda Panchayat, collapsed. Locals are demanding that he be provided with government assistance.
In the district overall, an average of 33.73 mm rainfall was recorded:
- Jeypore: 18.0 mm
- Kotpad: 37.0 mm
- Kundura: 19.6 mm
- Borigumma: 14.6 mm
- Due to the heavy rainfall:
- 15 houses collapsed in Lamataput Block
- 2 in Nandapur
- 4 in Laxmipur
- 4 in Borigumma
- 5 in Baipariguda
