Bhubaneswar, 12th Nov 2025:The demand to include the Khandayat community in the Central OBC (Other Backward Classes) list has gained momentum. Tejeswar Parida, BJP state spokesperson and president of Yuva Odisha, along with Bhuban Bhushan Kamal and Mita Rajiv Lochan, members and secretary of the National Backward Classes Commission, met at the State Guest House to present this demand to Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Chairperson of the National OBC Commission.

Tejeswar Parida stated that the Khandayat community, which is socially and economically backward (SEBC) in Odisha, is not included in the national OBC list. Hence, they are demanding its inclusion in the Central OBC category.

On Wednesday, during the hearing at the State Guest House, representatives of various communities and castes met the Chairperson to present their demands, including how their caste could be included in the backward classes category. Political leaders from BJP, BJD, and Congress also participated, presenting demands for more than 50 communities to be recognized under the national backward class category.

The National OBC Commission Chair informed that appropriate steps will be taken for communities that are eligible but not yet included in the backward class list. The state government’s report on these communities will also be considered and reviewed.
